She was born in Ravenna, Italy, in 1983. She got her master’s degree in Molecular and Industrial Biotechnologies in 2010 from the University of Bologna. Since then, she studied the molecular and cellular mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of HIV infection and the effects of HIV therapy, at the Microbiology Unit-Retrovirus Laboratory, S.Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital, Bologna. She obtained her PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2013. She is currently working at the Department of Industrial Engineering, with main focus on atmospheric pressure non-equilibrium plasma for biomedical applications, in particular bacterial inactivation and effects of plasmas on cellular systems.
